I read what I think is a true account recently, quite a funny one. A woman recounted how she and her classmates were messing about in an art lesson. Finally the teacher said "the next girl to misbehave will receive one whack with a slipper", so this woman said she kept on messing about, and of course ended up at the front bending over for her one whack on the bum. The teacher then said "anymore messing about and I'll double the punishment and keep doubling it". The woman said she was giggling so much after her first slippering that she ended up once more at the front where she got two whacks. It didn't end there, she still wasn't behaving and so received a further four whacks. At this point, having received seven of the best, and knowing next time it would be eight, she calmed down!
